Will your computer run Windows Vista?

If you are planning to install Windows Vista on your system, you need to be well versed with the system requirements needed for the successful installation. The minimum requirements normally supported by Windows Vista (all editions) are as under:
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
  • Support for Super VGA graphics
  • 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
For Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate, you can consider the following requirements:
  • 1 GB of system memory
  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Audio Output
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
    • 32 bits per pixel
    • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    • WDDM Driver
    • Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
  • Internet access (optional)
Multiple core CPUs are supported by all editions of Windows Vista. Only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors. Some additional requirements for different editions are:

  • Windows Vista Ultimate requires a USB Flash Drive and a system with a TPM 1.2 chip for Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption.
  • Windows Home Premium, Business and Ultimate require a Tablet PC or a touch screen for Windows Tablet and Touch Technology.
  • Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate editions require TV tuner card for TV functionality (compatible remote control optional).
